This Week’s Books
I read Peter Watts‘ book Blindsight a couple of months ago, and I was surprised by the quality of the writing and how enthralling the story is. It is a “hard science” sci-fi story about humanity’s first contact with an alien “species.” I will not elaborate on the plot to avoid spoilers, but I can say it was a pleasant surprise to be sitting for long hours again reading a science fiction book. I just bought the “side sequel” (according to the author) book “Echopraxia” that I intend to read on the plane next week.
This Week’s Articles & Links
1. This is a recent article about the last Olympics in France by one of my favorite authors, Theodore Dalrymple (pseudonym of English Psychiatrist Anthony Daniels). I remember watching the opening ceremony in disbelief because I did not expect the crazy iconoclastic pastiche that it was.

2. How (some) homes (of the “business class”) now look like houses for cyborgs.
3. Another point of view on the creative crisis in Hollywood. This is one of the reasons I do not go to movie theaters anymore. Another reason is I do not like superhero movies, multiverses, and business people (not artists) trying to make “art.”
